I am currently in Cabris, in the South of France on the Riviera and staying in a beautiful villa owned by a customer of my boyfriend. We are in the middle of nowhere, surrounded by olive groves and mountains, and boy do the French kept a wonderful selection of booze in their supermarches?! I want to bring so much home with me, but we flew, so there are weight restrictions*.
Anyway, I’ve already experimented with a couple of concoctions and this is the first. I’m pretty sure that someone has made this before, but we have Googled and found no results. If you like shorts, bourbon and amaretto, plus tart drinks, you’re going to love this cocktail.
I give you The Redneck Riviera.
- 1.5 oz Bourbon
- 1.5 oz Amaretto
- 0.5 – 0.75 oz Lemon Juice (depending on how sour you like it)
I would normally shake these ingredients, but in the absence of a shaker, I just added them to a rocks glass and gave a little stir, before topping with plenty of ice.
The ‘redneck’ is due to the bourbon hailing from Tennessee in the South of The States and ‘riviera’ from the Amaretto, which is Italian, also we were on the French Riviera, so that’s the name.
*UPDATE: We managed to bring back 6 bottles, plus an extra 2 that we bought in the airport. We didn’t have enough weight allowance for the bottle of Frexinet, so we drank it at the airport from plastic cups like the classy folk that we are.
